History 6, Review Lesson 3

In this essay I’m going to talk about the thing I see around me that I’m grateful for and know that God created.

In the morning I wake up and I see trees, vines, plants, and grass outside of my window. God created those. I’m thankful for all these things. Trees help us breathe, and the view is amazing, it’s beautiful. In the morning I look up and see the beautiful sky. Bright blue with white fluffy clouds; I also hear birds singing in the morning. My dad says that they’re saying their Thank you prayer. I see other people outside, God created them; I see animals, God created them. Imagine a world without people, lonely, right? If you have a pet imagine life without them. God created these things for us.

As you can see, God created so many things for us that we should be thankful for. I only named a few, I’m positive that there are way more.

History 6, Review Lesson 2 -The World Tour

This week in History I did my first world tour. I thought it was great! My favorite was lesson eight. I’m about to tell you why.

Lesson eight was about ancient African history. I learned about the Nubian civilization. I recently watched a musical called Aida. It was about a Nubian princess who got kidnapped by the Egyptians. I thought that Nubia was some made up place, but it wasn’t! I found it really fun to learn more about this civilization that I heard before in a musical.

As you see, this lesson was very fun for me. The other lessons were fun too, this is my favorite.

History 6, Review Lesson 1 – God Changed Your Language, What Would You Do?

Hello, my name is Lilly. I was around when God changed our languages. I have been asked by Sophia to tell you, people that are reading this, what is was like.

I’m an orphan. I have adopted parents who believed that we, humans, should be equal with God, if we can’t be equal; they wanted their god to be higher than God. I didn’t believe that.  God created us; since He created us we should worship him. We are below Him. My adopted parents didn’t believe that. So they helped make the Tower of Babel. They made me help too, I didn’t want to. They said I should just accept their god, I pretended to agree, but deep down I swore I would never.

One day I was gathering stones for the tower with my friend, Mia. I had to pick the rocks. Mia had to carry. She kept on talking and talking while I was picking the rocks. She had no clue I was picking bad, unreliable rocks. I didn’t want this tower to succeed. Thankfully, God didn’t let the tower succeed. Mia was still talking when it happened. One minute I understood her, the next, she was talking gibberish. I looked at Mia. She looked at me. I did not understand the language she was talking. I myself had no clue what language I was talking. We left the rocks and ran back to the tower.

It was complete chaos! People was running and screaming in foreign languages. Mia ran to find her family. That was the last time I saw her. I ran to the tower, nobody was working on it. I sighed in relief. I knew that this, everyone’s languages changing, was God’s doing. He stopped the tower from being completed. I started trying to call to my adopted parents, but my attempts was all in vain.

“Help!” I cried.

“What’s wrong?” yelled a person from in the crowd. This person talked in my new language.

“Help!” I yelled again. Someone ran to me. It was one of the village elders, the only elder that believed in God, I only know her as Auntie M.

“Lily! God has done this! You and I are family!” Auntie M said excitedly.

“Auntie M! Wait! What’s happening?”

Auntie M explained that God changed our languages to stop the village people from completing the tower. We speak the same language as each other because we’re in the same tribe. They’re three tribes. Each one are based from each of Noah’s sons. She said that she was from the Semitic tribe, so must I, if we’re talking the same language.

In the next few days I met other people from the Semitic tribe, my real family! I don’t know what happened to my adopted parents. I never saw them again. I helped Auntie M pack. My tribe was planning on moving, they never told me exactly where we were going. To this day I still don’t know where we moved to. The only direction I knew was that we were going in the opposite direction of the other tribes. I didn’t have a say in where we got to go. But, I didn’t care.

We walked for months. It was long, tiring, and energy consuming. We used to have big feasts at night with the food that we brought. I wish we didn’t though. After a while, we, of course, started running out of food. We had to ration. Auntie M got sick. She almost died if we didn’t find other people from the Semitic tribe. They nursed her back to health. We settled down with them.

I knew that God could have flooded the world, but He didn’t. He was merciful, He only changed our languages. That is why I’m glad that God is forgiving and merciful.

English 6, Lesson 15 – My Summer Adventure

This summer I didn’t go on a vacation, I moved to a different country! I was born and raised in the US, I moved to Singapore right after my tenth birthday. In this essay I’m going to give a short idea of how my family and I moved, and why.

My mom told me that we were moving one night. At first I was horrified, my whole life is here in the US! I changed schools a lot. That means a lot of first days. Moving to a new country is a huge first day, that might last longer than one day! I wasn’t looking forward to it. But, as time went on I got excited. I convinced myself that this is a new adventure. Of course I was a scared about moving, but things would be great. I have a grandparent there, cousins my age, and almost all of my family on my mom’s side is in that region. I don’t have any grandparents, or cousins that are my age in the US. I was really looking forward to it.

The last week before we moved we started living in a hotel for a week! It was so much fun! The day we moved we had to wake up really early. All our belongings that we hadn’t purged was in four suitcases, two boxes, a purse, and my backpack. We got ready and drove to the JFK airport. We had a while until our flight, which was delayed, so we got some candy and relaxed for almost an hour. We had to change flights in Dubai. When we landed in Singapore it was late, and we were tired. My aunt was supposed to pick my family but she got the day wrong. Everything worked out great for us. Now we are settled and happy.

Moving was a hassle and stressful for everyone but it worked out great! Of course, I still miss my home and friends in the US, but things are turning out great, and that’s all that matters.

English 6, Lesson 10 – The Railway Children

I have just finished an amazing book, called the “The Railway Children”.  This book is about a family that was well –to –do. Then all of a sudden the father gets taken away mysteriously. The family becomes poor and moves into a small cottage called Three Chimneys.

The family was enjoying their evening one night when their father got taken away. The father, of course, lost his job and the family became very poor. They had to move; they couldn’t afford to live in a big house anymore. Their new home was very close to the train station. The children would almost always go to the train station. They had many adventures at the train station or concerning the train. One time the children saved lives! They also made a lot of friends at the train station. In the end their father comes home to the family thanks to one of the children’s friends that they made at the train station.

As you can see, this is a very good book, and I highly recommend this book. Please take my recommendation. Thank you for reading my essay.

English 6, Lesson 5 – The Railway Children Hypothesis

This week I’ve been reading “The Railway Children”. In this essay I will be expressing my thoughts of how the book will end.

In the book I noticed that the children are not self-centered. Roberta and Peter are very understanding that their little sister Phyllis is smaller and can’t always keep up with them, and that she says somethings that can be a bit out of line because she is younger and less mature. Because the children are kind, selfless, and understanding they seldom fight. Since I know these things about the children I think that they won’t fight for rest of the book. They be-friended an old man, a porter, a doctor, and a station master. I think that with their personality they’ll be-friend more people at the railway. Everyone that they be-friend will somehow try to contribute to help the railway children’s family get back on their feet. In the end I think that the children’s father will come back in the end.

This is my thoughts of how “The Railway Children” will end.

English 5, Lesson 160 – What is something that you would like to learn how to do?

This week the topic for the essay is What is Something that you Would like to Learn How to do?  Something I would like to learn is guitar, karate, and mandarin.

I want to learn guitar because my best friend used to learn guitar. But, that isn’t the only reason I want to learn guitar. I also want to learn guitar because I think it’s cool and it’s developing a new skill. I also want to earn guitar because, if you want to learn guitar you need to be able to read music, and I don’t know how to read music. Learning guitar is going to help me learn how to read music.

I want to learn Karate because, I like martial arts. When I used to live in America I would take Jiu-Jitsu and Muay Thai, and I loved it! Of course, I had to stop when I moved to Singapore. Now, I want to find a dojo and start Karate. I also want to learn Karate because I want to try it out (because it’s obviously different from Jiu-Jitsu and Muay Thai) and because my dad and mom want me to know self-defense if I ever need it.

Finally, I would like to learn mandarin. I would like to learn mandarin for three reasons. One, so I can communicate with my grandma better (and know what she and my mom are talking about in mandarin). Two, because in Asia, mandarin is the main language. Three, who wouldn’t want to learn a language?

These are the three things I want to learn. What do you want to learn? Please comment! Thanks for reading!

English 5, Lesson 150 – The Coolest Building in Singapore

There are many cool buildings in Singapore. But there is one that is my favorite; the Merlion.

The Merlion is one of my favorite buildings. I have to admit, it isn’t a building, more like a statue. But it’s still one of my favorite. The Merlion is a Singaporean myth of a sea creature with the head of a lion and the body of a fish. The Merlion is like a mascot to the Singaporeans. The meaning behind the Merlion is very interesting. The fish body represents Singapore’s origin when it was a fishing town called Temasek, which means “sea town” in Javanese. The lion head represents Singapore’s original name, Singapura, meaning “lion city”.

The Merlion

There are three main reasons why the Merlion is my favorite building. One, I love the backstory to the Merlion. To me it’s very interesting. Two, the Merlion is in downtown Singapore. Since I don’t live in downtown Singapore, its fun to go to. Lastly, it’s summer all year long here, and is extremely hot. Since the Merlion is a giant statue that shoots water out of its mouth you get lightly sprayed, which is heavenly when you’re hot.

I don’t have any dislikes of the Merlion. Though, as much fun as it is to go to downtown Singapore, I wish that the Merlion was closer to where I live.

As you can see, the Merlion is the coolest statue ever!

English 5, Lesson 140 – Best Advice I Have Ever Received

I have received many good advices; however, these are my favorite three. YOLO, don’t worry be happy, and, well, the third one I’ll leave it as a surprise.

YOLO. It stands for you only live once. I like this saying because it means try everything (something my dad has been telling me since before I can remember), who knows if you’ll be re-born? It means if you put it off to the side continuously you may not be able to do it, at all or again. But my favorite part about it is that it sounds really cool! =)

Don’t worry be happy. The title of one of my dad’s favorite song. This song conveys a very good message. Stop stressing, be happy and carefree.  Bobby McFerrin really knew what he was talking about. If you haven’t watched the video you really should.

Finally the moment you’ve been waiting for. The third best advice I’ve ever received. I know you’re impatient, so I’ll cut to the chase. At first if you don’t fricasii fry fry a hen! Ops! I mean at first if you don’t succeed try try again. I like that saying because it basically means don’t give up no matter how many times you fail.

As you can see, I have received lots of good advice. These three are my favorite.

English 5, Lesson 130 – If I could Live Anywhere in the World

If I could live anywhere in the world I would either stay here, in Singapore, or go back to Stamford, Connecticut, where I was born, or go to Darien, Connecticut, in my dream house.

If I stayed here in Singapore I would want a slightly bigger apartment, so I can have my own playroom, and have a pet. My dream apartment would be pretty big. The kitchen would be big, the living room even bigger. So big we g=could have a green screen. We would have a wall so big we could get a projector to watch movies on! My bedroom would have a bay window, a big closet, a bathroom in the same room, a vanity set, a little stage I could play on, and a princess bed. That is my dream apartment in Singapore.

If I could have a dream house in Stamford, Connecticut I would go back to my old house I lived in when I was little. We had a deck, a large living room, a basement that was my playroom, an office for my dad, three bedrooms that are very big, and a spacious backyard and front yard. That is my dream house if I could go to Stamford, Connecticut.

If I could go to Darien, Connecticut I would want a new big house. The living room would be so big that we could throw a party! We would have a flower garden in the front yard, and a pool, trampoline, and vegetable garden in the backyard. I would have an art room, a play room, a movie theater, and a library! My room would be in a tower, I would have a bay window, a walk in closet, porch, and queen size bed that can become a bunk bed that is really high. That is my dream house I want in Darien, Connecticut.

In these three paragraphs I have told you my dream house/ apartment. What are your dream houses/ apartment? Please comment. Hope you liked my essay.
